Sex education is one of the most controversial issues in the contemporary time . Accordingly , whether or not to teach the proper usage of condoms in High Schools to protect the youth from sexually transmitted diseases and unwanted pregnancies is still debatable Although both sides , the proponents and opponents of sex education , have their own points and arguments regarding the issue , a decision on whether to teach the proper usage of condoms or not must be made

p Opponents of sex education argue that the only approach to protect the youth from STD 's and unwanted pregnancies is to teach Abstinence Only ' rather than the use of objects like condoms . Religious and moral values are also the major considerations of the opposition . They also argue that the use of condoms does not guarantee protection to the user either against STD 's or unwanted pregnancies , for condoms can also fail (Singer 2008 . Thus , the only way to protect the youth is through abstinence . However , I personally disbelieve in their arguments . How to use condoms properly must be thought not just in home but in school as well

The family does have a responsibility to educate their children regarding matters such as sexual intercourse but the school also has the same responsibility as a second home to its students . Families also fail most of the time in educating the youth regarding the matter . Therefore it would be best for the children to learn these things in school , being a learning institution , rather than anywhere else . Planned and careful teaching in school about condom usage must be considered . Everyone who desires could also get condom , even youths , and instead of letting them use it in a wrong manner , why not educate them on the proper usage for their own sake

Abstinence is in fact a good idea and a sure way of protection but the problem is not in the idea of abstinence but rather , on the application As McGraw (2008 ) stated , refraining kids from doing something does not always keep them from doing it . It is really impossible to refrain the youth from having sexual intercourse at an early age and thus , there will always be cases of STD 's and unwanted pregnancies as long as they are not aware of safety precautions such as the use of condoms . Even persons who intend to refrain from having sexual intercourse fail and end up having sexual intercourse (Singer 2008 . Given the attitudes and points of view of today 's youth , Abstinence Only ' will only lead in failure . Therefore , there should be something to compensate for the inability of the youth to abstain from sexual intercourse , sexual education that is . Opponents argue that morality and religious beliefs are important but I doubt if these things will continue to exist if the person has STD or is pregnant at an early age for regret would be the only thing left
