Diversity of a population is beneficial since communities integrate and share ideas that can be infused with other ideas hence resulting to greater ideas . The population of the United States consists of a diverse population due to its rich history . With more than 200 years of independence , the implications of slave trade resulted to the diverse population witnessed in present day America . Globalization has also resulted in populations migrating from their native countries into the United States in

search for better lives . Dealing with this diverse population has always been a challenge to the United States government The nation therefore has to consider the diverse population when implementing policies that affect the individuals . Matters that arise mostly during implementation of policies are based on race and ethnicity . The United States Government tries its level best to avoid issues that will result into ethnic and racial tensions among its population during the formulation and implementation of policies . To meet the different needs of the diverse population , the United States government has resulted to the use of affirmative action . The American population consists of individuals with different backgrounds . Systems in the United States have adopted the capitalist structure where the minorities appear to be 'disregarded ' and the policies that are implemented are aimed at avoiding them access certain facilities that are reserved for the high income class . This has lead to divisions in the society based on ethnicity and /or race . With this divisions , social amenities especially schools have become hard to access if you belong to a particular community that is considered inferior . The vice is so deep rooted that even the management of tertiary institutions exercise it by adopting policies that result to selective admission of students into the learning institutions

Problem Statement

The education sector in America is the most impacted when it comes to addressing diversity issues . Education being a basic need is sought after by a large number of people despite their religious or cultural backgrounds . In pursuit of achieving a better life in the United States than back at home , immigrants have decided to study in the United States so as to achieve the required professional qualifications . Admission to these centres of higher learning consider a number of factors that include grades in high school , scores in the institution entry examinations , participation in non-educational activities , race and ethnicity . However , the process of admission in these higher learning institutions has been the centre of focus for the learning institutions In the process of enrolling students , the institution 's management should look at the pool of students who have enrolled and then allocate admission depending on the composition of candidate population Affirmative action policies cannot result to effective selection of students to be admitted into institutions of higher learning .
