Democracy , for both better and worse , has been the single most influential political movement in the history of Man , and has shaped the world that we know today in so many ways that it would essentially be a different world if democracy did not exist the thanks for this movement and this structure can be given to the Athenians , who first started the idea long before the United States of America adopted it in her Constitution

When one looks at the course of history , nearly every major player is a state controlled by a dictator the rise and fall of empires such as these make up the historical timeline . Since democracy has flourished in the last three hundred years , it can be seen that this change , when contrasted with the whole scope of time , has been something huge and monumental on the world stage . The importance of this cannot be overlooked . Starting with the Athenians , democracy has forged governments where the people , and not just the all-powerful ruler , have a say in what happens within the country
