work . During the World War I , or the Great War , their stand in the society changed . Because many of the male population were gone because of the war , the demand for female workers increased rapidly . Factories opened job opportunities for women that were originally for men . Because the American government had seen that the strength of the women are equal to the strength of the men , and because of the great help of the women during the war , they were considered by the society to be equal to men (AP US History , 2006
Not only women were considered to be inferior in the society but also the African Americans . Not only are they inferior , they are also treated as a separated part of the society . During the World war , many African American joined the military . They were in a separated unit , which were only support groups . Only few of them were part of the combat group (African American Odyssey , 2002 . Those who did not participate on the war went to the cities were many job opportunities were opened for them Because of their great effort in during the war , they were given equal rights . They were given segregated but equal ' right to learn and the right to vote . The segregated but equal ' education gave the African Americans equality in education but not in the same classroom . The grandfather clause that prevents them from voting was also void
Many post-war babies were born and resulted to high schooling rate There were high demands for teachers during that time and the old curriculum of the Three Rs , or readin 'ritin , and `rithmetic , as the core of education were expanded to science , physical education geography , home economics and industrial arts
The major field where great adjustments were done was in the industrial field and economics . During the war , industries for technological advancement were very much benefited . After the war , new technologies were developed and many factories opened . The stock market grew like never before . Many people from the rural areas went to the urban to work . The mode of transportation changed as new automobiles were developed and airplanes improved . The resulting high employment rate produced a new way of living for the people . With ready cash at hand most people spent too much . Movie house frequently appeared and the demand for automobile increased .
