1 . Government officials , before enjoying their fancy positions , need to go through the rigorous process of election . Through the election process , a candidate is chosen by the people in to hold a certain position in government . Political candidates spend a fortune for these elections . However , more often than not , the money they use does not solely come from their own funds but from other people they raise money for their candidacy through

fundraising . Private entities , especially businessmen , shell out money for a certain candidate in to help him win the elections . These funds are usually used to pay for campaign materials and campaign personnel

The process , although seemingly simple and generous , is not as clean as it appears to be . Fundraising is the start of something bigger Businessmen do not shell out money for nothing . They allot money so that if the candidates they support during the elections win , they have someone in the government who will protect their interests . In a way the politicians are indebted to the people who fund their campaign Thus , they work every means possible in to return the favor . This paves the way for graft and corruption and the enactment of laws which only favors a few . The Congress possesses the lawmaking power .
