Good and Evil

The Hitchhiker 's Guide to the Galaxy is basically a satirical look at how the governments of our society run themselves . The bureaucrats are represented in this book by the Vogons who are one of the cruelest creatures to ever exist in the galaxy . This is highly evident in the scene in the book where Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent are captured and tortured by the alien creatures who are set on building a galactic super high way in the path where the earth stands . Vogons can be viewed as

one of the evil characters in the book because of their heartless character It takes an evil and heartless person to appreciate torturing a person to death , such as Prostetnic Vogon Jeltz does when he has Ford and Arthur thrown off his ship via an air duct from where they will suffocate to death . This character represents a portion of our society who do not like free loaders and hitchhikers . In today 's day and age , I would probably liken then to the people in the government who dislike the illegal immigrants who come to the USA and have no second thoughts about getting rid of them at any cost . But then again we cannot point an accusing finger solely at them because each character in the book has their own negative traits and actions to deal with

The computer Deep Thought might also be considered a negative character in the book . It reminded me of the government employees who slack off in their jobs and try to pass on their jobs to other people because they are too lazy to be bothered to complete their work

Originally designed to be a happy companion robot , he instead reminds me of a typical human being in the sense that he tends to wallow in self-pity for no apparent reason and then tries to drag everyone else around him into depression as well . As for Zaphod Beeblebrox , he is a scatter brained person who does not realize that he has done evil things simply because he doesn 't care about the end result of his hap hazard ways . Kind of like that younger or older relative you love to hate because in as much as he irritates you for being such irresponsible fool . You can 't help but feel that he needs all the help he can get because he actually has good intentions for his actions . It is just that he doesn 't know how to do things properly to get the results he wants

So , the heroes in the story are supposed to be Arthur Dent , Ford Prefect , and Tricia McMillian . They are the poor people who were practically hoodwinked into going on this adventure with the...
