The story does not offer any redemption for Hulga . Primarily because even in the end , she refuses to see anything wrong with herself . She continues to see herself as being victimized by a lower class of people Hulga 's arrogance in demanding her leg back rather than asking , shows an assumption that Manly will back down to her . The angry bitterness for his refusal continues on through the last of the conversation , leaving her alone in the hay loft with no way to get down . Finally...
