Appendix : Literature Review on Climate Change

Abstract

Global warming refers to high increases in temperature , which can alter the climate . It is occurring as shown by several alarming signs , like increasing global average air and ocean temperatures , and melting ice The natural greenhouse effect is essential to life . However , human activities produce more greenhouse gases that significantly raise the earth 's surface temperature higher than its natural level . Many scientists believed that the human-activity enhanced greenhouse effect causes global warming . Global warming has several negative effects on human life , ecosystems , environment , and climate . However , there are strategies ranging from individual participation to international involvement that can slow down the global warming

Global Warming

Introduction

Objectives of the

This focuses on global warming . It first differentiates the term global warming from climate change , and presents the manifestations of global warming as observed by scientists . It provides the causes of global warming by explaining the greenhouse effect and the enhanced greenhouse effect . It presents the impacts of global warming and existing measures and initiatives to reduce the enhanced greenhouse effects . Lastly , it presents briefly recommendations and conclusions

Definition of Terms

The terms climate change ' and global warming ' are often used interchangeably . However , they have different meanings . Climate change refers to any significant change in the properties of climate , such as temperature , wind , or precipitation , in terms of the mean or variability that lasts for a longer period , whether or not attributed to the natural variability or human activities (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [IPCC] , 2007a US Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] , 2008

On the other hand , global warming refers to a rise in the average temperature of the atmosphere near the surface of the earth and in the troposphere , whether due to natural factors and processes or induced by human activities . The increase in temperature , in turn , triggers climate changes (Braasch , 2007 EPA , 2008 National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration [NOAA] , 2008

Data Sources

The uses several available sources on global warming . For the scientific observations , the uses the data from the IPCC . IPCC established by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO ) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP ) in 1988 , provides the most comprehensive and up-to-date policy-related assessments on the technical , scientific , and socio-economic aspects of climate change (UNEP , 2003 . IPCC published its fourth assessment report in November 2007

Other major references include that of UNEP which provides the information kit and simplified guide toe IPCC 's report National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration 's frequently asked questions on global warming...
