Global Warming
There exists in modern politics a divisive issue which has polarized much of the American , and international population . The issue at hand does not concern abortion or war it concerns the scientifically supported hypothesis that the average temperature of Earth 's climate and oceans is rising steadily and that the main cause of this is rooted in the very existence of human technology and industry According to many scientists and historians , as well as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA , the modern dilemma of global warming can be traced to the late eighteenth

century and the birth of the industrial revolution . For the past two centuries Earth 's atmosphere has had to withstand the continuous burning of fossil fuels , mostly comprised of oil and coal . The global burning of these fossil fuels has contributed to a skyrocketing amount of detected greenhouse gas presence . Greenhouse gasses are a catch-22 of sorts in terms of biological survival these gasses have served to trap heat and prevent it from escaping from the Earth 's atmosphere , however , the over-abundance of these gasses has proven detrimental . The high amount of greenhouse gasses is serving to trap more heat in the Earth 's atmosphere than it historically has , thus leading to an incremental but steady increase in the Earth 's average temperature . Figures published on the Environmental Protection Agency website , gathered from NASA data estimates that , Earth 's average surface temperature has increased by about 1 .2 ?F to 1 .4 ?F since 1900 (EPA . The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has also projected the an increase in average climate temperature from the years 1990 to 2100 as ranging from 2 .4 ?F to 10 .6 ?F (IPCC
Many fear that an increase in the average temperature of the Earth even if by only a few degrees , will upset the homeostasis of the ecological conditions that allow for life to thrive on the planet Concerns range from gradual species extinction , which would inevitable affect species higher on the food chain , to the melting of glacial ice formations leading to a rise in sea level , which could mean widespread coastal flooding of non land-locked countries or the erosion of coastal land due to the encroachment of the sea level . The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has issued theirs concern over a proposed link between climate increase and an increase in the rate of occurrence and intensity of extreme weather events such as tropical storms , hurricanes and tidal waves . A projected rise in sea level could also affect the pH level of bodies of water , directly affecting life forms living in the seas or oceans . Among the observed changes already taking place related to climate change , alterations in the range and distribution of plant life , lengthening of growing seasons and the thawing of permafrost (achieved when soil is kept under freezing level for at least two years but often much longer
As illustrated , greenhouse gas emission , whether through the burning of fossil fuels in industry or automobile , has directly...
