Poverty has been a pervasive phenomenon in the world . Hunger , high level of illiteracy , high rates of child morality to mention but a few , all have characterized poverty . In response to fight against poverty several strategies have been developed globally to help improve the quality of human living which have had different impacts on social economic and political spheres . The purpose of this presentation is it to discuss the global poverty in the context of globalization , the role played by international

monetary agencies in addressing this issue and the resulting effects on culture

Global poverty

It has been found that almost half of the people in the world are living on less than 2 .50 in a day and more than eighty percent of the world 's population live in the countries which have a widening income difference . This is reflected by the fact that forty percent of the poorest of the world 's population account for only five percent of the global income while twenty percent of the richest people account for three quarters of the whole world income (Wilson , pp 172 . In level of literacy , it has been found that close to one billion people have stepped in twenty first century unable to read a book or even be able to sign in their names (Birdsall , Kelley and Sinding pp 153

Approximately forty million people are living with HIV /AIDS and about five hundred million cases of malaria are witnessed every year...
