Global Mass media and the black community
Global Mass Media and the Black Community : A Reaction Biagi Kern-Foxworth highlighted the social impact of the mass media and its role in promoting a culture that cultivates and perpetuates the psychological enslavement of ethnic minorities especially African Americans . They painstakingly demonstrated and illustrated in detail the different ways , formats and channels both consciously and unconsciously the discrimination and inequality that persists in mass media through stereotype portrayals , stigma , offensive labeling or terminologies used in writing and speech , lack of recognition of celebrating important events among ethnic minorities , news stories , and

even photographs among many others . In one instance , the labeling of Asian Americans as the "model minority " is an emergence of a new stereotype . Moreover , while attacks against whites have been condemned as a form of subversiveness and lawlessness , the sobriety and tolerance of racial discrimination against ethnic minorities is a matter of social acceptance African-Americans have been portrayed in mass media since time immemorial to be different socially and economically and thus separating them from white people (Healey and O 'Brien ) The homogeneity or uniformity of characters , attitudes of African Americans in mass media is not a manifestation of the uniqueness more so the diversity of this race but rather reflects the stereotyped and relative perspective of white people on them . As a result , the mass media that shapes popular culture is not really a depiction of reality but an unconscious yet strategic consensus of producers , who are predominantly white , of their understanding of ethnic minorities that do not capture the authentic experience of this race . In effect , mass media packages the image of African Americans as comical , super athletes , gangsters or worse a tautological menace to civilization . This trend precipitates in the global scale through electronic technology in which ideas are exchanged beyond time and geographic boundaries i .e . Internet , which is even harder to monitor or censor
In the field of mass media , Biagi Kern-Foxworth posts the challenges for African Americans and other groups or entities that are victims of prejudice i .e . racial ethnicities , females , homosexuals , Muslims , among others to be more involved in the production and distribution of mass media in to provide a more genuine depiction of their experience and ideas to emancipate them from the confinement and prejudice that mass media has pressed upon them . In particular , they should be able to exert greater...
