There are moments in the history of nations when there is a requirement of larger than life figure to take charge of the situation and deliver the country out of repressive foreign rule . The administrative and the political machinery of the previous regime have to be replaced amid rising expectation and fears of anarchy . He performed multiple tasks so as to get the status of legendary father figure

of United States . He was a capable commander in chief , first president , statesman , reformer and framer of the American constitution We are going to analyze how he contributed to the formation of free sovereign independent nation

MILITARY ACCOMPLISHMENTS

He was commander in chief of the continental forces fighting for the cause of American independence . George Washington heart was filled with the patriotism . He had always aspired to be a soldier and he was denied admission into regular commissioning in the British army . This taste of prejudice convinced Washington of the need to put an end to the foreign rule . He was an experienced soldier as he had participated in the French and the English struggle to control the upper Ohio valley

He was responsible of transforming them into disciplined soldiers by recruiting capable generals like Steuben . He had the skills to hire capable men . He had the foresight and courage of setting aside criticism if he thought that the appointment of foreign national like Steuben who was Prussian would help his patriotic cause

He was an astute general capable of understanding the weaknesses British colonial power had a strong naval force . Naval prowess was foreseen by George Washington as means of curtailment of the British force 's means of replenishing the forces and retreat whenever the need arose . In 1778 he signed a pact with the French which made them the ally of America (Keegan , 1996 .This treaty of amity and commerce between United States and France served the important purpose of recognition of America as an independent nation by France which was an important colonial power . This provided them with the much needed naval competence .He adopted unpopular measures like hiring soldiers from foreign land whenever he felt that the amateur continental forces lacked expertise His eyes were set to achieve success and he didn 't bother about the means and measures that were needed

His military achievements have received less attention as there were no full blown military operations .He was criticized by his contemporaries for lethargy as he believed in first constituting a powerful force and then engaging his enemies . He had him the qualities of good general as he knew that the strategy or the capability of withholding the battle for long time wears the enemy . The other military strategy of using the terrain of the battle field against the enemy was also utilized by George Washington .
