What do we usually see , when driving among the long lines of farm fields ? Do we see farmers ? - Sometimes we do . Do we see biological diversity of crops ? - Hardly so . The vision of crops and farm fields produces a controversial impression : for those who do not understand the essence of farming , corn , wheat , potatoes and tomatoes seem an ideal picture of perfect farming as a part of

prosperous national economy . The rest of the better informed population , however , will look at those fields as the direct product of urbanization and consumerism - the consumerism which does not benefit us , but turns agriculture into a purely commercial activity

The present day concept of industrial agriculture ' lies at the heart of the food and nutrition problems which we currently face . In simple words , industrial agriculture is the consequence of the conversion from agrarian , local , fully integrated food systems to industrialized monocultured agricultural production (Kimbrell , 2002 . Agriculture is no longer the source of cheap and nutritional food , but is just the means to satisfy the sophisticated and misbalanced needs of the limited population groups . I say limited , because a growing portion of world population suffers from hunger , and industrial agriculture only aggravates the difficult social situation in the world .
