Individuals born between the years 1967 to 1980 are called Gen X-ers They have similar traits with the Generation Y as they need more feedback compared to the traditionalists and baby boomers . Generation X has been characterized as a "bunch of slackers " by the Veterans and Baby Boomers . One key characteristic that permeates most aspects of an X 'ers life is the search for family . If they didn 't get it at home , they try to create it at work . This has caused the "new economy " explosion of workplaces that are family-style . Atmospheres

at work are casual and comfortable and there are usually soft drinks in the refrigerator and cereal in the cabinet . If Xers choose to work late , it is because the "home-style " atmosphere makes it easier to stay

They are accustomed to being alone , basically raising themselves and earning the title "latchkey kids " The majority of them have divorced parents and broken families . Generation X is a generation with a survival mentality . Generation X grew up in the shadow of Vietnam , an impeached President , the Challenger disaster , a stock market crash , etc Their view of the world has been less optimistic and they realized they weren 't going to have it as easy as their Boomer parents did .
