Introduction

More than thirty years ago , the then president of American Kennedy ascended the Equal Pay Act in 1963 and it became a law . This law made it unlawful to pay men and women working in the same firm in the same position different wages for substantially equal ' duty . During that moment the proportion of women to men wage was around 58 . Arulampalam (2006 ) explains that , though , the wage gap between men and women has reduced considerably since the enactment of Equal Pay Act of 1963 , at the moment there was still a

noteworthy wage gap between these two genders that it is hard to explain in the employment market as well as in the duties of the position they both hold . After being at around 60 from the 1950s , the wage gap between men and women increased in the 1970s to touch a high of 70 . However in the 1990s it started going down . But at the present moment , studies indicate that the wage gap between men and women is increasing again . Reduced job market discrimination may have contributed to reduction of wage gap between men and women however until now the earning gap still persists .
