The interest and the passion I have for genetics is unsurpassed by any other . A look at my life reveals that majority of the activities I have indulged in , be it academic or co-curricula , is fuelled by my desire to understand genetic composition of human and plant bodies and how such knowledge can be used to improve humanity . It is this thirst and craving for knowledge in genetics that brings me to Cornell University

I was born and brought up in India and only

recently migrated to the United States to further my education . My exposure in the field of biology and genetics runs long as my interest in science subjects . It is my research with the Neem tree that I consider the hallmark of my accomplishments , an excise that would fully orient me into the intricacies of science and knowledge search . With the help of my biology teacher in the 11th grade , I was able to conduct a research on one of the most respected trees across India , a tree that has come to be revered for what people have always believed it could do and what science was able to establish as the truth . Three years of research on the Neem tree is what it took to draw intense curiosity and burning desire to know more about biology and genetics specifically

I have a lot to thank my former teacher for he took me through the delicate process of research , the basics , ethics and how to write a report on the findings . I have also gained some considerable experience both in the health and chemistry field , experience that has played a big role in building up my confidence . It has also exposed me to real life situations and challenges that require my intuition and precision . I have exemplary report from my tutors on the same

In my high school days due to my excellent performance in the science-oriented subjects , I was given an opportunity to tutor in biology and chemistry . This is a task that forced me to dig deeper into the library for books to arm myself better and be able to guide the rest of the class . It helped me develop an interest in books authored by prominent chemists and biologists , giving me an important insight on what I hoped to become later in life

I also worked as a medical doctor assistant for a period of three years between my 11th and 12th grade . It is here that I got a real and first hand experience on the medical and health challenges facing our nation in India . Looking back at the health facilities in India then and comparing them to the zeal of the medical assistants and the state of the art facility in the United States , I feel I need to play a role in improving the situation back at home .
