Functionalism explains how social institutions maintain social stability . Society is seen to be composed of inter-linked units working toward performing societal functions . Individuals are granted roles that serve to fulfill societal needs . Regulations and laws assist to streamline individuals ' relationships ion society . Guidelines when observing norms and performing roles are offered through values (Rehnquist , 2006 , 94 . Inter-linked roles and norms that have affinity to equilibrium comprise the society
