The cooperation with the fire services department may be in the form of agreements , contracts , mergers , consolidations , etc . This cooperation would ensure that the fire department could function more effectively and help serve the

people better . Other emergency departments of the municipal corporation include : water services , electricity , traffic engineering building department , army , etc . The fire prevention department can cooperate with each of these departments to ensure that the benefits for the public are immense . Let us now look at the potential areas of cooperation

1 . Water services -

Enable better use of the water resources in helping out to reduce the fire

Creation of water resources to replenish the fire brigades at strategic points in the city

Ensuring that the fire prevention department is adequately trained in helping out in non-fire emergencies including flooding , etc , where water risks are involved

Ensuring that the fire hydrants are functioning properly in various points in the city . These could help effectively to reduce the fire

2 . Electricity department -

To help extinguish a fire in which the source of the fire has been from an electrical short-circuit

Helping to educate the fire department staff of how to extinguish a fire that arises from an electrical problem

Help to switch off electricity in an area that is on fire so that further problems are prevented

3 . Traffic department -

To help the fire brigades and other vehicles can reach their destination within the shortest period of time

Creating a management strategy whenever there is a fire emergency - This should be operated whenever there is a fire in an area . The traffic management system should operate and inform the fire services the route they should be taking . The traffic in the area should be kept free All other traffic that use the area should be diverted . Efforts should also be made for ambulances , police , other utilities to use this route

Ensuring that the vehicles are not parked around fire hydrants

4 . Engineering department -

Helping to maintain standards in safety of buildings

Construction standards should meet with the specifications laid down by the fire department

Inspection of various buildings to ensure that they meet the fire protocol

Providing advice to the fire department about the building plan , fire escape routes , etc , in case the building is involved with a fire

5 . Army -

Providing reinforcements to the fire department whenever it may be required

Fighting a fire that is caused by a terrorist attack or a war attack

Providing equipments and other resources that may be required to extinguish certain fires
