1 . G .E . Moore wrote an essay entitled Proof of an External World ' where he argues about skepticism by raising his right had and uttering the words here is one hand ' then raises the left hand and here is another . He concludes that two external objects are exists and with his argument , he knows that there is an external world . Comparing to Ashton in The Thirteenth Floor , who is a just simulated character himself and knows that he is a simulation is not aware of his artificial nature although he functions like a

normal human being . Douglas hall on the other hand is aware that they are all simulations and he could possible be successful in using the argument because he knows the virtual reality

2 . Doug doesn 't have special skills and has no prior experience . He believes that he is just a computer simulation because he is not computer whiz like Whitney . He does not have any background in investigations and has no plans . Hall 's reveals that our own world is a simulation as he stares at an incomplete virtual landscape

3 . Douglas can 't really love Jane because Jane actually lives in the real world and just participated in the 1997 simulation to finish some tasks and Douglas says that she can 't fall in love with a dream Somehow it makes sense to say that Jane loves Douglas in a way because she feels from the very beginning when they introduced themselves with each other...
