Students give various reasons for dropping out of school and Azzam (2007 ) lists the following five reasons as the ones given by students : they are bored with school they had been absent for too many days and were unable to catch up . They have too

much freedom and little if any rules and finally some were failing and did not see the need to continue schooling if they were failing and hence wasting time . Some of these reasons indicate that the problem does not lie majorly with the students but mostly with the administration of the schools and especially the public schools
It causes major concern in the state because the dropouts form a huge percentage of the unemployed . According to Johnson R . the students who do not graduate from high school form a large percentage of the low wage earners , the unemployed , those who require public aid and most of all the prisoners (1998 . This is because in this era of technical there are the requirements of training and skills in all jobs even those that were assumed to only require manual work . These jobs are not well paying especially since the labor force is larger than the required amount . It means that there is more labor capital than the economy requires
Johnson goes on to note that the people who are most affected are the minorities , those who are economically disadvantaged and those who are not native English speakers . He notes that the rate of dropout is high among the Hispanics and the black people and less among the whites . He also notes that the rate of dropout is higher in males than in females This has become a social problem because those who are already disadvantaged due to either their race or their economic background are becoming worse and are having no way of improving their lives . The only schools they can afford to attend are the public schools which do not have amenities used by private schools to entice the students to attend school . Without incentives it is very hard for these students who do not have interest in school to attend . They end up counting the time spent in school as a loss and end up dropping out
Previously , these school dropouts used to depend on work found in the manufacturing industries and especially the work that required only physical labor . In trying to be more labor intensive and increase their productivity , the industries have introduced the use of advanced machines that require knowledge of the recent technology . The knowledge required in the industries can only be gotten through training , which they do not have and hence this work is also posing a problem to secure it .
