effects that such resistance would bring upon their lives and entire society . The family is the anchor of Amish society . Children are born at home , play there and walk to school from there . By the age of fourteen years , Amish children are full-time workers in their homes , family shops or farms The extended family caters for their education in every field of life Young couples get married at home and adults work at home or close to home and even attend church at home or close by . But while religion determines the Amish way of life , the family has always been the most important unit of Amish society as well as economy and family relations have been a very important aspect of Amish culture and society (Dana 2007 Nolt Meyers 2007 , pp .88-89
