The history of the Ford company can be said to have started with the birth of Henry Ford (July 30th 1863- April 7th 1947 ) since he is the founder of the Ford company and the Modern Assembly Lines . The Ford company in turn has birthed myriad inventions in the automobile industry , for which it was awarded the 161 American Patent . The undertakings of the Ford company which was referred to as fordism was unique in massive production of relatively affordable automobiles

and lucrative salaries for its employees . These aspects of production Ford fussed with lowering the costs of production from whence diverse technical and entrepreneurial innovations sprung . In 1879 , Henry Ford left his domicile for Detroit to work as a trainee in mechanics with the company , James Flower and Brothers . Ford left this company in 1882 to join the Edison Illuminating Company which in the turn of 1893 , promoted him as the company 's chief engineer . Given these conditions , Ford was able to find enough time and financial resources to carry out personal experiments on gas engines . These spates of research activities culminated in the 1896 Ford 's sole invention of the self- propelled car , the Ford Quadricycle which was then test driven on June 4th , the same year

After that Thomas Edison himself approved the automobile experiments of Ford in 1896 , the second vehicle came out in 1898 , courtesy of Henry Ford . Ford in 1901 resigned from the Edison company to form the Detroit Automobile Company in 1899 which was later dissolved in 1901 . Another achievement which catapulted the growth of Ford 's undertakings was the production of the race car , Horsepower 80 , which was later christened Racer 999 ' and driven in to victory by Basney Oldfield in October 1902 . Ford later joined efforts with Alexander Malcolmson to form the Ford and Malcolmson limited so as to undertake in the manufacturing of auto mobiles . Ford embarked on the designing of relatively affordable cars , having entered into a contract with the John and Horace Dodge machine shop to ensure the supply of 160 ,0000 dollar worth machine parts . Ford and Malcolmson later regrouped in 1903 to form the Ford company with Ford , Malcolmson , Dodge brothers , John S . Murray (Ford 's uncle Horrace Rackham and James Couzens being the company 's original investors . A newly designed car was then exhibited on the Lake St .
