Fertility Transition

I believe that the United States is in the midst of a fertility transition . In the past few decades fertility rates have been declining . One reason is because many women are postponing marriage Women are choosing to finish college , and often graduate school before considering marriage and a family . I believe women are also taking more time to find a husband that they consider suitable . Women no longer rush into marriage simply because their biological clocks are ticking Furthermore , even after getting married many couples choose to have one

or two children , and they use birth control methods to avoid having more children

If this trend continues in America , society will face some difficulties . For example , due to advances in medicine and healthcare senior citizens are living much longer . If the population of the new generations continues to decline we could end up with more senior citizens than young people . We need young people to keep the workforce competitive in the global economy , and to support the tax system Another concern is that there continues to be more girl babies being born than boy babies . This will cause additional complications in the future because there will be a shortage of men , thus women will not be able to find a husband . Perhaps polygamy will become a necessity . The United States population could become extremely imbalanced in terms of gender and age groups . Also , the Unites States will become more multicultural because ethnic minorities tend to have more children than Caucasians . Ethnic minorities , especially those from Hispanic backgrounds could end up being the majority population...
