Six Exercises
Running head : Reflections on Exercises Reflections on the Four Exercises My Reflections on the Exercise Say It How This exercise was conducted to a group of students who were divided into six smaller groups . Each group was assigned to say six words in six different emotions . The first three groups were asked to read the words with the emotions as taken from Figure 7 .1 of the textbook while the other three groups were given the same words to say but the emotion al states have been modified based on Figure 7

.1
When each of the groups presented what has been assigned to them , they made 6 members of their group to say each of the six words in six varying emotions . During the exercise , I observed that the other presenters could easily express the word in a specific emotional state while some of them had difficulties in saying the word with the specified feeling . This was probably because the emotion does not fit the word being expressed . Examples of these are the words Yes ' in a raging manner and Over ' in a cautious manner . On the other hand , the words that fit in with an emotion are : Why ' in a thoughtful feeling and Yes ' when feeling happiness . There were also presenters who were confused on how to say the word with certain feeling because it is unusual for them to say that word in that emotional state
I also discovered that even if the groups and the presenters were only asked to say six word in different emotions , there are presenters who did not only use their voice but also involved their facial expressions when saying the words . I can see that they have exerted their best in the exercise
Out of this , I have learned that one has to integrate emotion in the words one has to say in to effectively convey the correct meaning
Students ' Reflections on the Exercise Say It How
After the exercise , I asked the students to evaluate the groups presentation . Based on the discussion that took place , these were their reactions , comments and realizations
The students realized that saying a word with a suggested emotion is quite difficult especially if the feeling doesn 't fit the word . Hence they find it confusing to express the word in a given emotional state It takes a lot of conscious effort for them to accomplish the task There were also observations that there are words that can be easily expressed in a certain emotional state than in another emotional state such as the word Yes . This word can be easily expressed when you 're happy , angry , in bliss or when in doubt but the students cannot easily express it when in rage or feeling indifference . My ' can also be expressed passionately when feeling sorrow , ecstasy or hope but its difficult when saying it with fear , terror or depression
Since , these were the students ' observations I asked them how they were able to overcome the...
