The Roles of WTO

WTO has a triangular set of roles to help the developing nations in their cross b trade initiatives . First , WTO has the mandate of supporting the Least Developed Countries (LDC ) from the harsh market competition and productivity operations that are beyond their cost reach

. To this end , the WTO adopted a model of giving aid in exchange for trade . This initiative was aimed at bolstering development or trade in the poor nations who would have more capacity to trade while minimizing loses (Zedillo et al , 2005

The second role of the WTO is to define the terms of liberalization to speed up multilateral trade across countries . The basis of this role is the Doha Round Table negotiations . The Doha Round appreciates that not all countries will succeed in the trade initiatives , but what is important is how all the member countries absorb the cost of losses accrued , while all the gains are also shared equally . The WTO role in this initiative is to see a win-win effect as a result of the liberalization . The responsibility of the member countries is to maximize the gains . WTO expects that a global trading approach should not have a problem in implementing these kinds of goals . WTO goes further to suggest that loses should be amicably shared in a bilateral or multilateral (Zedillo et al , 2005
