Paper Topic:

• Examine the Constitution of the United States (Bill of Rights). Identify where diversity is expressed or is not clearly expressed. Discuss what those failings could mean for society

The value of diversity can be seen in the United States bill of rights This examines where the value of diversity is most present in the bill of rights and where it seems lacking and relates the social implications of such

The value of diversity makes its clear appearance in the third amendment where the bill seeks to protect the rights of religion freedom of speech , and assembly . In this part , the state acknowledges that its population has very diverse religious and political inclinations and should be free to exercise them without

prejudice from others . The value of a state religion is not given merit in the U .S bill of rights unlike in other countries such as Thailand and the Philippines where there is a respective prescribed although not required religion which most people are following (Thomas , 2003 . The same is not true in the United States not because the state believes that there is no value to a prescribed religion but because it deems such a value inapplicable to the United States . This is because given its widely diverse population , there is no single set of religious ideologies that can bind the general population

The tenth article of the bill of rights presents an anomaly in terms of ensuring the value of diversity . This bill is supposed to protect all people in the United States from cruel and unusual punishment . The combination of those two words cruel ' and unusual ' is what creates the room for subjectivity towards what should or should not be imposed as punishment . What is not considered as cruel to some people may be considered as cruel by others . The word unusual ' itself connotes a subjectivity since the familiarity of a certain matter depends on a limited perspective . Since familiarity is based on commonness which is associated with the majority , this implies for society that those in power may be able to manipulate such an article to detriment those in the minorities

It is clear that while there is a good measure of importance placed by the U .S . bill of right on the value of diversity , there are some parts of the bill that are not so sensitive to this value
