Introduction

Public administration in America has been a central part of the affairs of the state from within its territory for more than almost two centuries , and can be generally described as policy analysis and implementation . In essence , it is the area which encompasses critical argumentations for the valuations and objectives of government and governance , budgets , public matters and bureaucracy . As an institution for the public and as an extension of the government , public administration can be roughly contextualized in the pursuit of the welfare of the public in its broadest

Apparently , public administration has been oftentimes , if not always made synonymous to bureaucracy . The term bureaucracy has an etymology which can be traced from the root word bureau which refers to the office where officials labored on their duties and responsibilities . The suffix -kratia or kratos - refers to rule ' or power ' in Greek . Hence , the term bureaucracy can be maintained as the rule of the office or officials or any of its equivalents

The development of public administration (PA ) in America has been quite a journey for the Americans themselves over the stretch of time that dates back to the early formative days of its government . Throughout the upheavals and progress in the course of the formation and strengthening of PA in America , various changes have transpired and reshaped the image and core values of PA . With the dawning of these factors , what America has today is a hybrid bureaucracy which originated from these historical alterations which are seen to have both strengthened PA as well as exposed more unresolved issues revolving around it as it further transforms into a seemingly unflawed agency of the government

Brief history of Public Administration in America

When Andrew Jackson became president of America , the white class has gained control over the government and has since then occupied the crucial agencies in the American government . This historical revolution reshaped the very image of the government in the sense that it has ended , to a certain extent , the administration of elites . The ascension of the middle class to heightened roles in the American government gave the middle group of citizens both power and productivity . For the most part , the presiding of a middle-class man in the most powerful seat in the government eventually revolutionized what used to be an exclusive governmental position and recreated the very image of America as a whole

As Vernon John emphasizes , `he (Andrew Jackson ) transformed the United States from an elitist republic into a democracy representative of the white male middle class . In to do so , he had to augment the powers of the presidency . Through his boldness he made the president the leader of the nation , the one who formulates national issues and sets priorities for the American people .
