Communication is the backbone of any interaction . Furthermore , it is also essential that we do not just communicate , but communicate effectively . One of the important factors that make the communication successful is to deliverable the message in such a way that is acceptable as well as understandable to the receiver of the message . In the given case , the clients are diversified across a number of

dimensions , such as culture , age , social status etc . Therefore , it is essential in the given situation that the human service workers at United Way Agency should be aware of the culture and cultural sensitivities of various ethnic groups constituting the clients of the agency . Moreover , there is also an influence of the demographics , such as age , gender and economic status on the behavior and attitude of people . Thus , the worker should also be aware of the fact that how different demographic groups respond to a given situation and how they think . Having an idea of these sensitivities , the worker would be able to communicate more effectively and thus , serve them better

What strategies or techniques do you believe would be the best approach to take when communicating with each of these clients

In to address the issue of cross cultural communication , it is advised to follow a number of recommended strategies few of them are as follows

First of all , the organization must try to encourage the workers to learn about other cultures , remove misperceptions and biases against them and thus develop a sense of tolerance for cultures other than their own and be aware of the dimensions of the culture to which the people may be sensitive

They should avoid any slang or idiom that may not be acceptable in another culture

Listen carefully to what the other person is saying , so as to avoid confusions due to difference in accent . They must respect local formalities and styles

How might you need to adapt your communication approach from one individual to the next

In the given scenario , it is the utmost need that the communication strategy must be customized for each of the segment to whom the worker is dealing with . This process of adaption may seem difficult but is worthwhile in the long run , especially if measured in terms of employee satisfaction . This process of adapting the communication approach from one individual to another includes the use of the gestures that are acceptable and prevailing in that culture , or at least not make that person feel offended . The idioms should be used with extreme care to avoid any confusion or misinterpretation . Moreover , it also includes delivering message and selecting vocabulary that is according to the caliber of that person .
