Author Miriam Beard said "Travel is more than the seeing of sights it is a change that goes on , deep and permanent , in the ideas of living " I had the opportunity to travel different parts of the world from the culturally rich Colombia to vibrant Puerto Rico , from exotic England to historic France , Italy and Brussels . It

was a surreal experience . It is also an experience that has a special meaning to me These travels have in fact made me the person who I am

My parents took me to visit these different countries . I saw a young woman with a baby living in a box outside a supermarket in Colombia . I helped in a farm in Puerto Rico and tried to understand the lives of the farm workers there . As I explored England , I appreciated the history of that nation . It was one of the first democracies of the world . I saw some of the ancient civilizations of the world as I traveled through France , Italy and Brussels . When I looked at all the monuments and statues in these places I tried to comprehend the dreams that the true founding fathers of this world had . I experienced the world like I had never done before

When we live in the United States , we meet people from different cultures and countries but seeing them in their own country and in their own familiar environment is the best way to understand them . During these trips , I saw from rags to riches and from the ancient cultures to the modern technology . There was so much diversity . Each city and each person had a different story to tell . Yet there was an underlying similarity . I realized that all humans , wherever they lived and whatever they did , had similar dreams and aspirations . Everyone wanted peaceful and happy lives . Everyone was equal

The view of the world that I gained by visiting these places could only have happened this way . Albert Einstein had once said The only source of knowledge is experience ' These trips made me a more mature individual . I never take anything for granted and try to sympathize with everything around me . It was an experience that changed my life forever It was unforgettable and beautiful and I 'll be forever indebted to my parents for giving me this opportunity
