When an organization operates in unethical business environment , it is also called for acting unethically in to remain profitable However

, is there any conflict between personal and business ethics , and is it possible to state that unethical conduct is completely acceptable in an unethical business environment ? The list of decision makers in the analyzed case includes John , Bob , and Doug . In the discussed situation however , John carries primary decision-making responsibilities due to the fact , that he is the only person who is concerned by the current state of affairs . John does not yet see any resolution to the complex situation in which he was put by his colleagues . He has either to refuse cooperation , and to bury his career prospects in the Russian affiliate or to address other decision-making tools , which will let him act ethically , but with the risk to his position and the whole Russian retail network

Dan D-Wong is the major stakeholder . He is directly impacted by the decisions his employees take , and encourages proper conduct in difficult situations . Dan can hardly be considered the major decision maker : he is not aware of the inner processes which take place in the Russian affiliate of his company . Being primarily aimed at preserving the company 's profitability , Dan 's employees evidently risk his reputation and the corporate image of his company . In case the violations of the Russian tax laws become public , this will cause serious financial and moral losses to the company in general , and to Dan in particular

The case requires ethical decision . The peculiarity of this ethical decision is in the fact that it actually stems from the legal framework within which John has to decide whether to pay taxes or to invent a story for the inspector . The ethics of the decision is in that it directly impacts the employment and position of all employees in the Russian affiliate . Ultimately , the ethics of business conduct is opposed to the profitability of the company when it comes to business performance in legally non-regulated economic environment

Stakeholder management - the community

The major interest of the stakeholder is in creating a profitable enterprise . This profitability is crucial for the employees to have stable employment , income , and possibly career perspectives . Community stakeholders suppose that better profitability through breaking tax laws is socially justified . The case includes the details of the Russian life during the 90s , when people 's income did not allow them satisfying their basic needs . However , in the light of the discussed economic and legal circumstances , social benefits and employment serve only the cover for the socially unacceptable business actions
