Institution Name Ethics in Criminal Justice is very broad issue . I believe the major issue is that how law enforcement officers use their power ethically . A minority of people , most of whom are fairly powerless , directly experience an `intolerable face of police work . This `ugly face ' is cautiously concealed from the majority of reputable citizens , who instead are presented with a media-projected image of the police which is both biased and idealized . In this image , the police are

radically portrayed as waging war on our behalf against such treacherous criminals as muggers , armed robbers , thieves , murderers , terrorists , and an assortment of psychopaths

Not simply does this image obscure the wider political and essentially repressive function the police accomplish about which more later but it as well mystifies the degree and nature of police crime against particular segments of the public . It performs this disorientation not by denying the subsistence of police illegal assaults that maneuvers would just lack credibility but by transforming its meaning . The public are sensitized to officers solving the Dirty Harry Problem , as Klockers (1980 ) calls it because the criminal justice system is offered as a slow , bureaucratic machine which perhaps provides too many protecting civil rights to criminals a theme publicized by Robert Mark (1973 ) when he was Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and because criminals are described as ever more sophisticated and protected by bent lawyers who get technical loopholes through which the responsible escape

Though , those police crimes which cannot be transformed into cozy comforting image , such as corruption and gratuitous violence particularly against ethnic minorities , the reasonably marginalized , and political radicals are either denied , or when that is impossible , put down to the antics of an odd , disturbed , or greedy person should not be allowed in force
