br Code of Ethics Analysis

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW ) is the largest association of social work professionals in the world . Its preamble focuses on enhancement of human needs , with particular emphasis on empowerment of the vulnerable and poor . Their mission is a set of core values that includes service , social justice , dignity and worth of human individuals and relationships , integrity and competence

Their code of ethics provides standards and guidelines of their service . It provides a set of values and principles to be applied to specific cases . However

, NASW code of ethics does not specify values principles and standards that are most important and outweigh the others in case of conflict . There are instances when answers are not available to resolve complex ethical issues

In these circumstances of conflict a social worker is expected to use informed judgment , take into account values , principles and standards in letter and spirit apart from the other sources as general ethical theories and principles , social work theory and research , laws regulations , agency policies , and other relevant codes of ethics with a clear understanding that NASW is their primary source

Although the violation of code is not subject to legal recourse , it is subject to peer review . The code provides a clear principle for the service provider to help people in need and to address social problems This is their primary goal beyond any self interest . They are even expected to provide pro bono service

A principle is only a broad enunciation of core value and cannot provide specific answers to specific conflict . Therefore , keeping the broadest principle of helping the poor in need over any other self interest , the rest of the principles of social justice , human dignity importance of human relationship , integrity and the others follow
