Ethics are principles that dictate the right way people should behave and act . Every society has its ethics that are considered valid and they are embraced by every member of that society . Normally , ethics include the behaviors that prescribe how people should relate and treat matters that involve integrity in life , health and the body (Cheng Henry , 2005 . They also include being truthful and the right for people to know the truth . The laws

in any society establish that people should behave in an ethical manner taking into account the principles that help underline the expected behavior in society . Ethics are normally practiced in every area of life including the workplace

Over the years , most organizations have developed various mechanisms that control the behavior of their employees . The mechanisms are sometimes known to the employees but others are carried out in a hidden manner and the employees may not know of their existence . One of the mechanisms that has been used by the companies is the drug testing Companies have estimated that they incur losses due to the use of illegal drugs at the workplace through absenteeism , accidents , health care and insurance costs (Lewis , Goodman , Fandt Michlitsch , 2006 They have therefore turned to drug testing at the workplace as a measure to mitigate themselves against such costs and losses .
