[Name] [Professor 's Name] [Subject] [Date] Summary The Class System in Schools Several local high schools in Southern California took the University of California 's English placement exam . The exam was conducted to have an assessment on the composition course they need to take , college admission considerations , writing skills and capability and areas for improvement of both the senior and the junior students of the involved schools . Furthermore , the exam was used to have assessment on the possibility of transition from high school writing to college writing

from those schools of concern
Two schools were particularly observed . The first school was furnished with fine edifice , lawns , and highly qualified office staffs . The teachers have high dedication on their work and the students have exhibited interest and attentiveness on compositions . The other school that was observed has opposite characteristics of environment , office staff and the students . There is a big gap between the two schools observed
This gap was explained by the class based system of education in the United States . There is a difference on the funding awarded on each student in US . For instance , school districts in New York received 13 ,623 per student while in Utah they received 6 ,206 per student . A direct relationship exists between the states ' income and the money allocated on schools
In response to this class inequality , most parents try to send their children in the best school in the district . This scenario only favors wealthier families . Only the rich families have the capability of doing this thing poor families were stocked on poor areas which offer low quality education
The introduction of The No Child Behind Law ' even worsened the gap Those schools which were not able to meet the conditions of the law (attendance , test scores , graduation rates and over-all improvement of student ) need to formulate intervention plan for particular years Sadly , low income states do not often meet the guidelines , thus they are required to participate in the pole vault when they have in pogo stick to do it
The Lesson About Learning
There is an irony on the current education system in the United States Research of proper and advance techniques are sometimes accompanied by the questioning of the premises for education . Now teachers were easily informed about educational theory . They are now required to complete accreditation courses and must be trained to have true understanding of the so called learning paradigms . With these advancements , problems on funding , bureaucracy , inconsistencies on training programs and even the concept of reward and punishment in the educational system have bee disregarded
As B .F Skinner has conceptualized , education system operates on a behaviorist model . If parents want to learn Latin , they could reward them with him by giving chocolates every time he learns ten Latin words Similarly , if the child was not able to learn Latin words , they can punish him by taking away television privileges from him
