CULTURAL COMPETENCY PLAN FOR PROVISION OF COUNSELING

Every society has its own cultural beliefs for which any outsider has to respect and mostly understand in order to be accepted into the society Moreover the concept of diversity encompasses acceptance and respect . In order to be able to offer counseling to any given population , one is obliged to develop a cultural competency plan in order to improve competency with the chosen population

The population chosen for this study is the one

comprised of the Arabs living in the United States of America . The diversity factors in this regard will include language , race as well as religion . In order to be able to give counseling to this population , I will develop a cultural competency plan

In my cultural competency plan the following will be my strategies Firstly , it is without doubt that language barrier will be the greatest barrier . Therefore I will have my first strategy in development of my plan as learning the Arabic language in both written as well as verbally . In addition , I will seek to develop language assistance services which will include bilingual staff as well as interpreter services

My second strategy will include developing and maintaining a demographic , cultural and service delivery profile of the communities being served , in this case the Arabic-Americans . This will be so as to be able to understand the population to be served , since each community has its own diverse cultural profile...
