Case Study Analysis Hershey Case Study What do you think about Hershey 's ERP strategy Based on the case study , at first , the strategy of Hershey for their Enterprise Resource Planning is not the successful because of the inability of the management to strategically and effectively manage the planning and implementation of this implementation system . During their first implementation , the management have not been able to realize the importance of having an IT expert among their managers to make sure that the Enterprise 21 project that has been implemented meets their

company needs . Because of the failure of the Enterprise 21 project , in spite of the high expectation of the management , the company has initiated another project using the lessons that they have learned from their first ERP project . In this second ERP software , the management has been able to strategically and effectively implement the project by ensuring that the management stayed involved with the project from the start the end of the upgrade phase of the ERP . Hershey initiated the project by sticking with their initial implementation plan , by using phased strategy which is slow but sage . In addition , the company also spend appropriate time and resources in to test the new system and kept things simple by restricting the number of software applications . The strategy of the company also ensures that they used proper communication (Chambers , 91 ) among functional group . In this regard , it can be said that the company has been able to use a strategic project management to ensure that the ERP project will be successful
What lessons can be learned from the Hershey
experience
Based on the case study , there are many lessons that can be learned from the experience of Hershey . First , it has been learned that when an industry initiate a project , the management must always be involved in its implementation so as to ensure that all actions in the project management are being managed properly . Aside from this , it can be learned that when initiating a new information technology or system in a company , the management must be able to know which IT /IS system would be suitable and which outsourcing consultant would provide them with the things that they need in terms of designing , testing and implementing the project . It has also been learned that when initiating a project the management must consider time and budget needed to ensure that all the needs of the new system would be provided . Having an effective communication approach among the management and the functional groups is also an important factor that has been learned from the experience of Hershey . All in all , it can be said that because of the failure of Hershey on their first ERP system , other companies may learn from this to make sure that their project will be successful on the entire process of the project management
