Originally named with a James in the beginning , Langston Hughes is a Missouri-born , Harlem poet . He is one of the most prolific whose works spoke of the lives of the blacks in America . He did not contribute greatly to literature alone he was also known to have sparked influence in the world of jazz music . Although in different forms , Hughes ' works are mostly centered on one theme . His works portray the lives of the blacks and how they are also Americans , even with their black complexion and gloomy past . As such they must be treated fairly and without discrimination . In his poem Theme for English B , Hughes reiterated this theme by using a part of his daily life when he was still twenty-two . He conveyed to the audience that blacks are part of the American society and life as much as the white people are part of the blacks
