Love After Love ' by Derek Walcott

The time will come

When , with elation

You will greet yourself arriving

At your own door , in your own mirror

And each will smile at the other 's welcome

And say , sit here . Eat

You will love again the stranger who was yourself

Give wine . Give bread . Give back your

heart

To itself , to the stranger who has loved you

All your life , whom you ignored

For another , who knows you by heart

Take down the love letters from the bookshelf

The photographs , the desperate notes

Peel your own image from the mirror

Sit . Feast on your life

Derek Walcott is saying that there is love after love and not to dwell onthe past love . There will be another day or time when love will come again . When that day comes , it will be almost like the last love . Treat yourself to this amazing new love and don 't let it pass you by . Today I leaf through the obituaries

and find out who has died among the famous -

an actress , doctor , and philanthropist -

the stories of their lives take up a page

But I recall my neighbour , Betty Amos

who , with beads wrapped round a gnarled fist

tried to cure cancer with Hail Marys

never letting faith succumb to rage

There is no mention of her name at all

no words relating kindnesses and deeds

how she brought us apples in the fall

and fed the hungry pigeons pumpkin seeds

Leo Yankevich is expressing a feeling that is undescribable . Also wondering why a lady such as he describes is not in the obituaries as the famous people are . Wondering how a person that has helped so many people out , done a lot of good things in her life and fed pigeons could easily be forgotten unlike those other famous people
