The Web of Tragedy That Cannot Be Escaped by the Characters

Oedipus Rex and Antigone are both great plays of the great Greek man named Sophocles . His name sounds so familiar because of his works

Among the 120 works of Sophocles , Oedipus Rex is considered as the greatest play he had ever written . He had used a masterful plot and suspense which make Oedipus the King as a perfectly structured ' play .Another very beautiful masterpiece of Sophocles is the play Antigone The

play is about Antigone , a brave woman , who is not afraid to refuse the earthly command forbidding the burial of his beloved brother

This will focus on the two plays mentioned above . I will compare these two plays focusing on the characterization of Creon . In both plays , Creon has played important roles

Sophocles used tragedies in both plays namely Oedipus Rex and Antigone All the characters in these plays are victims of what is called peripeteia or the sudden turn of events

In Oedipus Rex , the perepeteia occurs towards the end of the play when the messenger told Oedipus about his parentage . I want to compare the tragedy of the family of Oedipus , including Creon since Creon is the uncle of Oedipus , to a DNA which characteristics are passes on the next descendants . The two plays are about tragedy and the tragedy was started from Oedipus then went down to the last descendant of the family . The same tragedy had happened . The death of someone is paid dearly by another

In Oedipus Rex , Creon was accused by Oedipus that he has taken in a conspiracy when Teresias said that Oedipus is the killer of King Laius to obtain the kingship . Creon reveals his ambivalent thoughts about the role of king in time of Greek tragedies because of the accusation of Oedipus . The role of the King that time was both desired and feared because of the great responsibilities that a king must take and because of the effects of the position on the king 's character . What Creon said to Oedipus is actually the true nature of kingship . The position of the king holds a great responsibility and accountability to the people and if there is a decline in an affair of the state , the first person to blame is the king and that is the dreadful part in becoming a king . And of course the desirable part of being a king is that the king holds a great power to the state . Creon said that why would he wanted the position of Oedipus as the King of Thebes if he is sharing the same power as the king and queen but without having the accountability that the king...
