Abstract

Individuals and organizations are constantly involved in the cognitive process of selecting the best course of action from several available choices or alternatives . The decision making process involves exploring on several possibilities and finally converging on the best solutions resulting into a final choice . Some decisions are simple and straightforward while others are a bit complex and tricky (Mind Tools During rescue operations the

The ability of a team leader to supervise and influence the subordinates depends on the task in question and the commitments of the personnel

Every manager has an optimum number of personnel that he can effectively manage . When the span of control for a manager exceeds the optimum level their effectiveness decreases . In order to achieve the optimum level of span of control the manager should balance between the relative advantages and disadvantages of retaining responsibility for decisions and delegating those decisions to subordinates .
