Wikipedia defines treason as disloyalty to one 's nation or state . A person who betrays their citizenship and /or reneges on an oath of loyalty and in some way willfully cooperates with the enemy . For the purpose of this , I will use the term a little more loosely , but still carry the ramifications of a terrible , unthinkable act . The argument for my use of the term will be supported by works from Edmund Spencer , Amoretti and the Epithalamion Phillip Sidney , The Old

Arcadia Homily on Obedience and John Lyly , Endymion , or the Man in the Moon From the works of these authors I will make an argument for treason as not just something one can do to one 's nation , but also to one 's friends , and even to one 's self . Treason as it refers to a nation would fall into the category of legal offenses as it refers to one 's friends it would fall into the category of personal offenses , and lastly , as it refers to one 's self it falls into the category of theological offenses

It is most difficult to think of treason without the pre-described interpretation of it being only referred to in a military or political setting . I remember when I was a child there was always an instance of someone 's feelings being hurt over words spoken or actions taken . The premise of this has not changed with time , only the use of subterfuge and language choices we make . People are still being betrayed , left alone , and left holding the bag . As one becomes an adult , they form paradigms that knowledge is filtered through in for their minds to make sense out of life . Theology , as I will use it here , refers to that which is the central figure of a person 's motivation , thought and speech patters , and also as it sets parameters for their exploration of new ideas . So , when I say I have committed theological treason , I have done something that goes against everything I believe to be truthful and honest

We will begin with a passage from The Homily on Obedience and how it relates to the treason that we all are familiar with and that which has been ingrained within us : an offense against our nation
