I could make up for any deficits in my resume by displaying a confident attitude in my interview . He advised me on what to wear and what to say . Sean , on the other hand , insisted on rattling off the current unemployment statistics and reminded me that there were probably many overqualified and underemployed applicants who would be more likely to get the job . He criticized my suit , my shoes , my hair and made it clear that the interview was probably a waste of my time . At this point , he turned the conversation to

himself and discussed all the times when he was qualified for a job and still was not hired . His next step was to discuss the plight of his current girlfriend who , according to him , had real ' problems

According to Suzanne Gaddis ' article , Ego Boosters Versus Ego Busters (Gaddis , 2004 ) Sean lacks an I can ' attitude . Instead of focusing this negative attitude on himself , however , he is shifting it to me . In addition , he suffers from Cyclops Syndrome , in which he thinks only about himself and his experiences and cannot relate to anything I am saying unless he can find a way to bring himself into the conversation . His speech is constantly littered with negative words such as can 't , don 't and shouldn 't he also uses phrases such as don 't count on it , it probably won 't happen , and you 're setting yourself up for disappointment . This attitude makes it difficult , if not impossible , to maintain a positive attitude , without which success is much more difficult to attain

In conclusion , I find that people who are happy with their lives tend to be much more positive and reassuring about my life . Eric is an ego booster because he has people in his life who boost...
