In this we will focus our work on the effect (s ) of standardized testing on implementation of formative assessment in classrooms . Our research will be intended for pre-service and in-service Secondary Mathematics teachers , Secondary School administrators and members of the Ministry of Education involved in Mathematics curriculum development and implementation as well as those involved in the production and administration of standardized tests . We will discuss the subject throughout answering a critical related

question : What effect does the administration of standardized tests have on the implementation of formative assessment (assessment for learning ) practices in classrooms Finally we will explore what was learned , and what does our inquiry suggests for future teaching practices

Introduction

Assessment becomes formative in nature only when either the teacher or the student uses that information to inform teaching and /or to influence learning . Therefore , data from summative assessments can be used in formative ways . In practice , it may be difficult to differentiate the two . Many theories have been proposed as guides to improving learning and several of them have practical implications . Many of classroom-assessments examples emphasize the social and community aspects of learning . For example , teachers and students develop shared understandings of standards for quality work and certain kinds of feedback extend and deepen these understandings
