Reform ideas are the wheels of change in American education . Most ideas have affected school requirements , methods of evaluation , curriculum accessibility and even students lifestyles . There have been a number of reforms that have been brought forth from generations . Some of these include

Outcome based education is a type of educational reform in which students are assessed on basis of their results . It emphasizes on outcomes that can be measured . In the year 1991 , Texas implemented an outcome based program this was followed by Washington in 1993 and the state of California in the same year . These reforms are still in place today . The reason for their success is that the economy of the country is running on a similar program . Companies use the same technique to asses performance of their employees and overall company performance . These reforms have worked because output is usually a good indicator of one 's efforts since it is measurable and gives tangible results . Another reason why the reforms have succeeded up to this point is that they are not relative i .e giving comparisons of student 's achievements . They are factual and consider each subject individually . This enables assessment of students abilities in various subjects

The No Child Left behind Act is among the most recent education reforms in the country . It was signed by the president in the year 2001 . It focuses on reinforcing a standard in the education system . It requires that teachers should be highly qualified . This implies that they must be in possession of a degree , they must be fully licensed and they must show their capability by passing a number of tests offered by the state

In addition to recruitment of qualified teachers , students must undergo testing in high school . These assessments must be in compliance with current practices within the rest of the country . Most schools use standardized tests . The policy discourages comparing students against each other and instead encourages evaluation of knowledge of the subject matter .
