Dear Dr . --- How are you ? I hope you are doing well . My name is Yoshio Arai . I am a teacher for both high and senior students at a private school named Meiho . I wrote this letter because I would like to do my doctoral studies in the ICU and would like you to be my research advisor . Among other fields of linguistics studies , my interest lies mostly in socio and anthropological linguistics . I am particularly interested with language policy and its implications on language education . In particular , the recent move by

some Japanese companies in designating English as the in-house official language drew my attention . I believe that a forced situation of English use may well come under close investigation since Japan is a society where English proficiency is unarguably a plus but definitely not a must . Therefore , the success or failure of a novel language policy at company level could have a compromising impact on English education at secondary school levels
I had four years of teaching training at a Japanese national university (B .E . in secondary education , Fukushima University , Japan and took two years of anthropology studies at an American university (M .S . in anthropology , Purdue , U .S .A . It is only during the seventh year since I took up my present position .
