Domestic violence in the work place is an issue that most companies have taken measures aimed at addressing . Domestic violence costs companies a lot of money in healthcare issues productivity in that those who fall sick or due to injuries sustained in domestic related violence may take some time off from their normal duties something which makes companies to lose manpower hours and absent days from work which result when workers due to injuries

According to a survey by (Domestic violence (2006 , business executives interviewed agree that , domestic violence is a major concern in the work places , in the same study it was determined that domestic violence has a negative impact on bottom lines of organizations . To underscore , the prevalence the study observed that , at least a half of the chief executives were aware of employees in their respectable organizations that had underwent domestic violence . In terms of the economic cost of domestic violence , it is approximated that , it costs companies in the range of 727 .8 million , in the USA alone

What can companies are doing to support awareness of domestic violence in the work place

Companies have implemented intervention policies that address the above-mentioned issues . The responsibility of giving necessary moral and otherwise support to employees in the work place in most organizations is left to human resource mangers but depending on the nature and scope of organization , some organizations do have counseling specialists who help out in cases whereby incidences of domestic violence are reported in the job place

Providing training classes for mangers offer solutions for challenges facing companies in regard t work place domestic violence . Domestic violence is manifested in the work place in several ways for instance if an employee is so stressed and depressed that their productivity is low , and then the effects of domestic violence are evident in the work place . Secondly if domestic violence incidents occur in the work place that again is a manifestation of domestic violence . Thirdly , if an abuser abuses an employee in the work place it can be termed as a manifestation of domestic violence

Domestic violence costs companies millions in dollars in medical expenses

In a survey carried out by (Domestic violence : 2006 ) 94 percent ' of the corporate security directors ' surveyed ranked domestic violence a high security problem at their companies . It is highly expected that any factors affecting staff in any organization will affect the employer in that the employer depends on the employers for all functions of the organization in to meet organizational goals and objectives Research has shown that , in the US alone , a third of employees attest to having experienced domestic violence at least once in their life times
