In the society domestic violence manifests itself in different forms including physical aggression like hitting , kicking , biting , shoving , throwing objects at and others . It may also be manifested in forms of threats , sexual abuse emotional abuse , domineering , intimidation , passive or covert abuse economic deprivation , and in many other forms . The level of awareness differs from one society to the other with some society already acknowledging domestic abuse as a part of social culture while others have vehemently opposed it . It is a problem that is prevalent in both developed and developing nations , upper class , middle class and lower classes , and prevails across all sectors of the society .
