This movie Mississippi Burning was set in the mid 60s , when segregation was still allowed and pillaging was rampant and acceptable . This movie hinged upon a movement towards equal rights (voting , which was an unwelcomed change in the deep south of Mississippi . The vision of the Ku Klux Klan is that the separatist attitude that they had was encouraged by the Holy Bible

and therefore acceptable . Hence , any attempt to change this was a thorn in the backside of their town . They ironically shared the philosophy of Malcolm X (by any means necessary and later on , so did the Federal Bureau of Investigation . Various tactics were used to discourage equality and maintain subservience . The Klan constantly set churches and houses ablaze murdered , mangled and manipulated the African-Americans of this town . One incident was cutting off the scrotum of one of the men in the African-American community . There was also rape and beatings . As I watched the movie , I felt there had to be someone of the African-American community informing the Klan because they were not always around to see who was informing the FBI . The African-Americans were further deterred because the police officers or the authorities of the town were recalcitrant . The judges also did not help and the rulings were always in favor of the clansmen The African-Americans were detained in jail for several hours and upon release , chased and hunted like dogs . Fire bombs were thrown into homes , guns were used and crosses were burned on lawns . There were also verbal threats . Lynching was done and intimidation by uttering derogatory statements during marches . Flags were removed from some of the marchers ' hands , as if they were not American . Those who were associated with them were called names . They were not considered human beings . The townspeople felt as if the African-Americans had no rights The FBI came to enforce the civil liberties of the African-Americans Hoover , the agent in charge , was working strictly by procedure . He began by asking one of the African-Americans about a crime , which lead to the young man being hurt . He ed more manpower down to get to the bottom of things and continually asked questions , without any cooperation from either side . However , this system did not work for Anderson , who used to be a sheriff in Mississippi and was aware of the culture there . He was a part of the FBI team and did not go by the book in his interrogation process or tactics . He would ask different questions and give insights , such as stating that the three fingers down means someone belonged to the Klan . He went to talk with the deputy 's wife when he knew the deputy was at a meeting and parked his car away from the house , attempting not to be seen . However , someone discovered him and the deputy severely beat his wife...
