“A Doll’s House”
Guy Vachtel English 111 Section : ENGL-111-DLB Campus : online Professor Khalfi Summer 2007 I chose the subject 3 : Choose the final scene of a play read this semester and argue for or against its being a fit resolution to the main conflict in the play The plays that were studied this semester were intriguing in there own accord . But what sparked my interest is the play entitled A Doll 's House ' written by Henrik Ibsen . It was a thought-provoking play that could generate certain curiosity on whether or not

the resolution of the play best addresses the conflict of the play . It was seen that the play was about the plight of Nora as a housewife and as a woman in a household belonging to a family framework that could be considered patriarchal in nature
The problem or conflict of the play was more on the mental and emotional burdens that Nora was carrying . Her brush with the immoral solution to a problem that had saved her husband 's life is haunting her present state . In an effort to save herself , she had tried to keep the lies with more lies but in the end her fazade was broken with the resigned resolution that she wanted out on the marriage and even a darker hint of death playing across her mind . I believe this not to be a fit resolution to the conflict . Instead , Nora should not have called it quits but she should have realized that staying and fighting would have the best resolution especially when Torvald had already given her the means to be start anew . Her husband had given her a step towards a path where a little truthfulness and explanations would have helped her cause
The first reason that the resolution is not a favorable one is that Nora and Torvald 's marriage could have led to something better if Nora would stay and fight . In defense for Nora , a patriarchal perspective at the timeframe of the play would have been a hard feat . Yet , Nora should have realized that she has a special power over her husband . She has a special hold on Torvald and that is the power bestowed upon her through the adoration that Torvald has for her . This adoration proved not to be wavering even until the end . The discovery of the lie through the letter did not take a toll on the adoration that Torvald has for Nora . This may be an act of saving face on Torvald 's part but one could not blame him when his mind-set was directed that of the egotistic nature of men before . theless , a certain hint of the adoration that Torvald has for Nora is still there since he was willing to put the past behind him Nora then could have used this special power or bond on Torvald in for her to come out clean . Her decision to leave was uncalled for especially when another alternative was presented to her . A much better...
