Culture is defined as the set of enduring behaviors , beliefs traditions and attitudes that are shared by members of a particular society and are consequently passed on from one generation to the next (Myers , 2005 . Cultural diversity on the other hand refers to the coexistence of different cultural systems within a particular region (Kiyindou , 2006 . It is central to a lot of

individuals in that it involves the idea of cohabitation as well as coexistence . It is then no wonder that a lot of conflicts arise whenever the issue of cultural diversity is discussed

In education , the need for a multiculturalist approach is in . In the United States , one of the main issues that needs serious attention is that of meeting the educational needs of its culturally diverse student populations (Bowman , 1994 . If the need is not met , millions of students , particularly those who are African - American , Hispanic , Asian and Native American , will suffer from undereducation

In the workplace , cultural diversity provides a means to maximize the utilization and enrichment of the country 's human resources (Corporate Culture and the Workplace . By hiring people from different cultural backgrounds , the company promotes a multiculturalist setting in which ideas , ambitions and talents converge and more improvements result

Cultural diversity is thus pervasive in that its influences extend to a lot of aspects such as in education , the workplace and in society . For instance , cultural diversity is believed to enrich societies (Smith 2006 .
